2019 People’s Choice Challenge a Success

Deep Creek Times announced today that the 2019 People’s Choice Challenge is now complete with both the competition and reception deemed a great success for the community and for local businesses and non-profits.

“This second annual People’s Choice Challenge was another step forward to celebrate all that is great about Deep Creek Lake and the Garrett County area. Deep Creek Times is committed to celebrating this wonderful area, it’s people and institutions and the community responded, as indicated by the large number of nominations and votes received.” stated co-owner Sarah Myers.

The 2019 People’s Choice Challenge had 40 individual nominating categories in four major groupings: experiences, services, products, and professionals, with wide-ranging categories.  According to co-owner Mike Tumbarello, “We were really impressed with the pride and passion of the 1,000-plus nominees along with our readers, citizens, and visitors that together cast over 15,000 votes during the voting window.”

The Challenge culminated in a reception on October 30th, with top category (Diamond) winners, and second place (Platinum) winners receiving “plaques”, window decals and other gifts. The reception, held at the Garrett College GIEC small business incubator, drew over 70 individuals and the spirits were high as the names were read and the awards given (see below for a link to People’s Choice winners).

The festivities were enhanced by the wonderful food provided by Premier sponsor, Brenda’s Pizzeria/Ace’s Run/Trader’s Coffee. Deep Creek Times made a donation to Garrett College, accepted by president Richard Midcap and Program Director Jodi McClintock as a thank you for the use of the venue and as recognition for the work the college does to support the business community.

“We would like to thank all of the nominees, voters and the community that supported this celebration of the institutions, people and experiences that make the Deep Creek Lake area and all of Garrett County such a great place to work, live and visit.  Mike and I are thrilled and we can’t wait until next year’s challenge and event,” stated Myers.
