WVU Medicine Garrett Regional Medical Center and Potomac Valley Hospital Celebrate Exceptional Patient Satisfaction Achievements Across the Region

WVU Medicine Garrett Regional Medical Center (GRMC) and Potomac Valley Hospital (PVH), both part of the WVU Medicine system, are celebrating major achievements in patient satisfaction and quality of care, reflecting the organizations’ continued commitment to patient-centered healthcare.

Recently, Becker’s Healthcare recognized both hospitals on its list of hospitals patients would recommend in each state using Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The list included 765 hospitals nationwide.

At GRMC, the hospital also earned the second-highest overall patient satisfaction score in Maryland under the Health Services Cost Review Commission (HSCRC) Quality-Based Reimbursement (QBR) program for Rate Year 2026, achieving an overall score of 92.98, up from 92.21 the previous year.

GRMC also received the 2026 Healthgrades Outstanding Patient Experience Award, placing it among the top 15% of hospitals nationwide for patient experience. In addition, GRMC earned the 2026 Joint Replacement Excellence Award, was named a Five-Star Recipient for Total Knee Replacement for two consecutive years, and recognition for Hip Fracture Treatment.

  • Potomac Valley Hospital also reported significant improvements in inpatient patient satisfaction scores throughout 2025. Key improvements included:
  • Communication with nurses increased to 91.87 from 84.45.
  • Communication with physicians improved to 87.49 from 78.48.
  • Discharge instructions increased to 97.53 from 85.76.
  • Likelihood to recommend improved to 82.63 from 73.42, contributing to a 5-star CMS rating for that measure.

“Across both hospitals, these achievements reflect an authentic commitment to excellence in patient care by our physicians, nurses, staff, and care teams,” said Mark Boucot, president and CEO of GRMC and PVH. “Our teams continue to raise the bar through collaboration, accountability, and a shared focus on delivering the best possible experience for every patient we serve.”

“Our recognitions and improvements reinforce the strong culture of quality and patient-centered care at both hospitals,” said Angela Maule, vice president of quality and communications at GRMC and PVH. “Our continued focus on communication, service excellence, and quality improvement is making a meaningful impact for the patients and communities we serve.”
