The weather will be showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 8am, then showers between 8am and 11am, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 11am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. High near 71 and a low around 49. Southeast wind 11 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Garrett County’s current COVID-19 case rate is increasing rapidly. The county statistics are dismal compared to the state numbers – the second highest case rate, second only to Allegany County, the highest positivity rate, and the lowest vaccination rate. “Most of the counties in Maryland are seeing a COVID-19 plateau, except in counties with low vaccination rates,” said Dr. Jennifer Corder, Deputy Health Officer for Garrett and Allegany Counties. “We can expect to see this trend continue until most of the population is either vaccinated or acquires immunity.”

The Maryland Mentored Hunt Program aims to teach first-time hunters and lapsed hunters a new set of skills, whether it be hunting techniques or how to hunt specific species.

Locally, a Mentored Pheasant Hunt event takes place in Friendsville, MD on November 6 or 7, 2021. This event is designed to be an introduction to pheasant hunting for youth, new and lapsed hunters (13 and older). Selected participants will need to provide their own shotgun or inform staff that they need to borrow a shotgun prior to the event.

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources announced it has eliminated the day-use fee for riding the St. John’s Rock off-road vehicle (ORV) trail at Savage River State Forest, saving trail users $9 per rider and also removing the need for advance registration.

Bridge inspections will be taking place on the referenced locations and dates below and will impact the following County roadways from the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.:

–Wednesday, September 22 Oakland – Sang Run Road over Deep Creek
–Wednesday, September 22 and Thursday, September 23 – Glendale Road and State Park Road
–Thursday, September 23 – Sang Run Road over Youghiogheny River
