Below is information about this year’s United Way of Garrett County Annual Campaign from Michele Walker, their Executive Director. Bob Sutton, POA President, encourages you to consider making a contribution.
Every day we jump in the shower, wash and put on clean clothes. We never think twice about it. Unfortunately, in our community, shampoo and detergent have become somewhat of a luxury to struggling, working families. Every paycheck these families are asking themselves do I put gas in my car or get laundry detergent and shampoo. Most of us have never had to live our life without “creature comforts” – food, warmth, a comfy bed or hygiene items. Have you or your children ever complained that there’s no food in this house,” while staring at a fridge full of food and a well- stocked pantry. For so many in our community the everyday struggle to survive takes a toll on not only their mental health but their hope and spirit as well. There may be any number of reasons that people fall on hard times. Not everyone has family or resources to turn to in times of need.
For more nearly 25 years, Garrett County property owners have supported the County United Way. It is only through your generosity that we are able to invest in programs to help our friends and families who are struggling. Through these programs we are able to provide them the help they need today and a hope for a better tomorrow. Through your help we are able to make sure children have a safe home, senior citizens will receive a hot meal, a cancer patient receives help with prescriptions or gas cards, students can afford to take driver’s ed to get their license and a job. Your support is critical to our success!
