Two local winners will be heading into the 2026-27 school year with backpacks full of school supplies, thanks to a special back-to-school giveaway hosted by Garrett County Public Schools (GCPS). As part of GCPS’ Back-to-School campaign, participants had the opportunity to enter a drawing to win a backpack loaded with essential school supplies. Two winners were selected, with one representing the elementary grade level category and one representing the secondary grade level category.

- Elementary Winner – Judy Fike
- Secondary Winner – Wyatt Wilt
Each winner will receive an age-appropriate backpack filled with school supplies to help them prepare for the upcoming school year.
“We’re excited to help two families get a jump start on the new school year,” said Mrs. Dawna Ashby, GCPS Chief Academic Officer. “We know that preparing for a new school year can be a busy time for families, and we hope these backpacks provide both useful supplies and a little extra excitement for the year ahead.”
The giveaway is part of GCPS’ broader Back-to-School campaign, which is designed to connect families with helpful information and resources as they prepare for the 2026-27 school year.
Students return to school on Monday, August 31, 2026.
