Did you know? Since August of 2020, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources has conducted 64 different hunting seasons covering a variety of animals, seasons, and locations.

Harmless to humans but deadly to many Maryland plants, the spotted lanternfly is an invasive species. If you see something that looks like a spotted lanternfly in Maryland, take a picture and send it to DontBug.MD@maryland.gov or call 410- 841-5920. If you can, try to catch the bug, place it in a bag, and freeze it.

Deep Creek Lake’s first-ever National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) mountain bike event is this weekend! This event is not a timed race but an opportunity for Maryland student-athletes to do an incredibly scenic and rewarding trail ride with their teams, on terrain that is probably unlike anything they’ve ridden before. This will be Mountain biking with a capital “M”!

The race directors are looking for volunteers! Parking attendants, course crossing guards, shuttle attendants, and scoring assistants are just a few of the jobs available. Sign up to volunteer for this weekend’s event here.

As a reminder, the Maryland Department of Education has instated a masking requirement for all Maryland Public Schools.

The Garrett County Board of Education will meet in Executive Session on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at 4:00 p.m. for the sole purpose of conducting a mid-year review of the Superintendent’s Action Plan 2021. The Executive Session will be held virtually and is closed to the public.

A national photography contest was just announced: all kids in grades K-12 are invited to submit a photo to convey, “What Makes Your Hometown Special?”. At least two winners will be selected from each grade level and have their photo published and receive a $150 Amazon gift card.

Join Deep Creek Watershed Foundation at the Red Barn Inn & Events for “Broadway in the Barn!” There will be three wonderful singers/musicians who have all worked in NYC to perform a selection of Broadway favorites.
