Lots of open water on the lake yesterday and still a few skiers going down Wisp’s Main Street.  Today will be mostly sunny with a high of 70 degrees and a low of 55! Spring is in the air! Wooo! Sunny in Deep Creek Lake, MD

Oakland’s Winter Fest this weekend was a success and they certainly had winter weather on Saturday. Sadly, all good things come to an end.  Here’s one of the ice sculptures downtown Monday afternoon that was still intact but many were melted.

Congratulations to Shirley Bailey of GCC Technologies.  She was chosen to participate in the next class of Leadership Maryland.  Shirley was one of the key folks in the County to help us retain HUBZone status.  Well done and well-deserved Shirley!

Don’t forget the “Have a Nice Day Project” at Trader’s Coffee House this evening from 6:00pm – 8:00pm.

Actually, you can go to the Red Cross blood drive at First United Bank and Trust’s Operations Center in Oakland first, then attend the Commissioners meeting and then reward yourself with some great coffee and treats at Traders.

Congratulations are in order to the crew and cast of both “Silent Sky” presented at Our Town Theater and the “Vagina Monologues,” hosted by Garrett College over the weekend.   Rave reviews from all that attended Silent Sky and those in attendance at VM were truly moved by the stories presented.

Garrett College in coordination with the University of Maryland Extension, is sponsoring a course, Tools to Extend the Growing Season, at the College’s Southern Outreach Center in Oakland this Thursday, February 22nd, from 1:00pm – 3:00pm.  Students will learn some tools and ideas for getting vegetables started earlier in the spring and growing longer into the fall.  Call 301.387.3069 for more information or to register.

West Virginia public school teachers across the state are planning a two-day walkout over disputes in wages and insurance premiums this Thursday and Friday. Those same teachers, however, are also assuring students will not go hungry.

This little guy sure enjoyed all of the precipitation over the weekend – a special thanks to Stephanie P for sharing her video:
