Effective October 1, 2008, the Smith Island Cake became the State Dessert of Maryland (Chapters 164 & 165, Acts of 2008; Code General Provisions Article, sec. 7-313). Traditionally, the cake consists of eight to ten layers of yellow cake with chocolate frosting between each layer and slathered over the whole.

Donate your old bikes to help support the Bike Rodeo! There will be a Silent Bike Auction and the funds will help support the pump track project. You can bring your bikes to the Bike Rodeo, or drop them off anytime at the Deep Creek Lake Lion’s Club park at 1249 Bumble Bee Rd at the bike rack at the trailhead. Just drop the Lions a message letting them know you dropped off a donation and they’ll store it inside until the rodeo event.

For 10 years, the Mountain Maryland Plein Air Competition & Exhibition has brought artists from across the United States to the heart of Appalachia for a week of artistry and beauty. The 2021 program is taking place June 15-19, 2021, with 28 of our original artist class. I saw two participating artists yesterday afternoon and I am blown away!
