The Little Yough Summer Music Festival continues this Friday, July 14th featuring The Steve Smith Band. The family-friendly, free concerts are held at the Mountain Fresh Pavilion in the heart of the A&E District every Friday evening from July 7th to September 1st, with a break in the schedule on Friday, August 4th. Food vendor D’s Eats will open at 6 p.m. and the performances begin at 7 p.m
The Steve Smith Band features local singer/songwriter Steve Smith bringing his own brand of county, Americana, gospel, and country rock. It all started when 12-year-old Steve, traded away his dirt bike to get his very first banjo that he learned to play while listening to the radio in his father’s car. A bit later, a chance meeting at a business in Nashville led to Steve jamming with country music legend Charlie Daniels. Since those days, Steve Smith has gone on to open for Darryl Worley, Lee Brice, David Nail, David Allen Coe, Jo Dee Messina, and the Oak Ridge Boys just to name a few.
His song “Wishing Well” spent three weeks at #1 on the Indie Charts while another original charted #12 in Australia in 2012. And to think it all started during a square dance at a building owned by Smith’s grandfather.
The LYSMF has funding support from the Garrett County Arts Council, the Maryland State Arts Council, and the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development and partners with WKHJ 104.5. For additional information about the concert series please visit oaklandmd.com/ly-schedule.html.
