The Friends of the Ruth Enlow Library are proud to announce their newly created Friends of the Ruth Enlow Library Scholarship. The Friends will provide $500.00 to each Garrett County High School annually. This scholarship is open to applicants seeking a formal college pathway in one of the following majors: library and information science, early literacy instruction, language arts education, ESL education, or creative writing.
Applicants for the Friends of REL Scholarship must be a Garrett County resident; must attend Southern or Northern High School as a graduating senior; and must complete the application by the due date of March 1 of the award year. The application will be submitted along with the following items for acceptance of the Friends review: (1) Evidence of commitment to one of the previously mentioned career paths in the form of a 500-word essay of interest in the relevant fields. Include any volunteer work in these fields. Include an answer to the question “Why are you applying for this scholarship?” (2) References from two educators, whether teachers, school librarians, or counselors.
All interested students should apply at their guidance office by March 1, 2025.
