The Maryland State Police in Garrett County, in coordination with the Maryland State Highway Administration, report that due to the pending ice storm, the Snow Emergency Plan for Garrett County was implemented at 0900 hours on December 26, 2025.
The following highways have been designated as snow emergency routes in Garrett County:
Interstate: I-68
U.S. Routes: US 40, US 50, US 219
Maryland Routes: MD 38, MD 39, MD 42, MD 135, MD 495, MD 546, MD 560, MD 669
Once the Snow Emergency Plan has been put into effect, Maryland Law requires motorists to operate vehicles equipped with snow tires, as designated by the manufacturer, or equipped with chains. Studded tires are allowed from November 1 through March 31.
During the declaration of a snow emergency, a person may not park a vehicle on any highway designated as a snow emergency route.
Your office will be contacted once the weather and road conditions improve to allow the lifting of the Snow Emergency Plan.
