Reminder: Please Dispose of Leaves Properly

As autumn brings an abundance of leaves, Garrett County Government is reminding residents that the County does not provide leaf cleanup services.

It is the responsibility of property owners to dispose of their leaves properly. Blowing or mowing leaves into ditches can lead to serious issues, including blocked drainage and road damage.

When leaves accumulate in ditches, they prevent proper water flow, causing ditches to overflow and increasing the risk of roadway flooding and slippery driving conditions. Standing water also erodes pavement, leading to potholes and costly repairs.

Residents and homeowners are encouraged to keep ditches clear by starting compost piles and/or bagging leaves for drop-off at the Garrett County Landfill.
