Public School Member to Be Appointed

Effective July 1, 2023, Garrett County Board of Education member Dr. Matthew Paugh will resign from his position. This vacancy is being created due to the relocation of his full-time profession. Paugh was appointed to the Board in October 2013 and has served as a member, vice president (2017), and president (2018-2019) during his tenure. “The Rev. Dr. Paugh has been a great supporter of schools throughout Garrett County during his time on the Board. His insight and experience will be a huge loss to the system,” said Board President Mr. Tom Woods, of the resignation. “We all wish Melissa, Isaiah, and him the best in Bridgeport, WV.” Superintendent Barbara Baker added, “It has been a pleasure working with Dr. Paugh. He has been a tireless advocate for the students of GCPS. He will be missed!”

Under the Maryland Education Code, the Board of Garrett County Commissioners will appoint a replacement for the remainder of his term. Individuals interested in being appointed to this position must reside in voting District 1, as indicated on the voting district map.

Letters of interest should be submitted to:
Board of Garrett County Commissioners
Kevin G. Null, County Administrator
203 South Fourth Street, Room 207
Oakland, MD 21550

All documents must be received by 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 23, 2023. Then, the Board of County Commissioners will review the candidates and conduct interviews.
