Public Meeting Notice: Garrett County Homestead Tax Credit

The Board of Garrett County Commissioners will hold a Public Meeting on Monday, March 9, 2026, at 4:00 PM at the Garrett County Courthouse, Public Meeting Room, on the Homestead Tax Credit. The Homestead Tax Credit limits the increase in taxable assessments each year to a fixed percentage.  Garrett County’s limit is currently at 3%.

The Board of County Commissioners is considering lowering the Homestead Tax Credit to provide additional savings to residentswhot own a home as their primary residence.

Individuals or representatives of groups wishing to make oral or written comments are encouraged to attend the hearing. Each speaker will be allotted three (3) minutes. Written or voicemail comments may be submitted in lieu of oral testimony and will be accepted through Monday, March 9, 2026, via email at comments@garrettcountymd.gov
