Volunteers from Garrett County Law Enforcement agencies, along with the Garrett County Department of Social Services and members of AmeriCorps have partnered together for the annual Police Providing Presents event to benefit local children.
This nationwide event may be called different names, but the event’s meaning stays the same. The event provides selected Garrett County children the opportunity to be paired with members from the Maryland State Police, Garrett County Sheriff’s Office, Oakland City Police, Maryland Natural Resource Police, and the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office who will spend time together as partners for the day.
The event provides the opportunity for children to go shopping with a police officer in order to purchase presents for their family and themselves, attend a luncheon, enjoy games and activities, and have their presents wrapped by volunteers. The annual Police Providing Presents event is scheduled for Saturday, December 16, 2023.
The program serves Garrett County children and is supported by donations. We are graciously asking for donations from those who would like to support this program. These contributions will help provide the selected children with the opportunity to make their holidays a little brighter. Any donation would be greatly appreciated. All donations can be dropped off in person or mailed to the Department of Social Services, attention “Finance Office” located at 12578 Garrett Highway, Oakland, Maryland 21550. The office is open Monday through Friday 8:00 am until 4:30 pm. All checks and money orders need to be made out to GCDSS and noted in the comments, “Police Providing Presents.” Any questions can be directed to F/Sgt. B.
