The Maryland Department of Natural Resources has recognized Jesse Black of Kingwood, West Virginia, and Canden Michalski of North East for reaching the FishMaryland Master Angler milestone by catching 10 different species of fish at trophy size.

Community Action is wrapping up its Community Needs Survey, open through Monday, September 15, for Garrett County residents age 18+ (one per household). The survey takes about 20 minutes, and participants can enter a gift card raffle.

Maryland’s obesity rate has risen from 27.6% in 2013 to 33.8% in 2023, an increase of 6.2 percentage points, according to a new Invigor Medical study using CDC data. Adults aged 35–44 saw the sharpest spike, jumping from 29.4% to 39.8%.
