New Oakland Hunting Ordinance

New HUNTING ORDINANCE for Oakland was passed at Town Council’s meeting on 6.6.22, due to vehicle accidents, excessive land damage, & unhealthy deer population in areas.
Some of the basic info is:
-Hunting deer with bow &arrow/archery gear or equipment in the Town of Oakland is permitted on private land only & prohibited on all public land within the Town, in accordance with all DNR regulations, & only permitted during the period from October 25th through November 21st.
-Property owners wishing to hunt on their property, wishing to have their property hunted, or wishing to allow hunting on their property within the corporate limits of Oakland must obtain a permit from Oakland City Hall.
-Deer hunting may not be performed by any method other than bow & arrow/archery gear or equipment & only according to all other laws of the DNR article.
-A hunter with a bow & arrow/archery gear or equipment shall be in an elevated position that allows the hunter to shoot in a downward trajectory, from a minimum of 10 feet in the air.
-Hunting of any other wild bird or mammal is prohibited.
-Hunting must be conducted in accordance with applicable State law & all Department of Natural Resources regulations, including bag limits.
-Hunters must be DNR certified & licensed & must obtain a permit from Oakland City Hall.
-Hunters must clean up the area after field dressing a deer.
-The Town of Oakland suggests that all hunt areas be posted that a hunt is in progress.
-Hunters are reminded that they cannot trespass on private or public land of others to hunt or retrieve a wounded deer.
