Neighborhood Ford Store to Present “Quilt for the Cure” to Schwab Family Cancer Center at UPMC Western Maryland on October 22nd

Neighborhood Ford Store will present a handcrafted Warriors in Pink “Quilt for the Cure” to Schwab Family Cancer Center at UPMC Western Maryland on Tuesday, October 22 at 2:30 PM. The presentation will be led by Greg Diehl, owner of Diehl’s Ford Sales and Neighborhood Ford Store board member, alongside Joey Thurby, Chairman of the Neighborhood Ford Store.

Created by volunteer quilter Sue Brichacek (pronounced BREE-ha-check) of Pittsburgh, PA, this quilt is a visible symbol of hope, encouragement, and community support for patients and families facing breast cancer.

The quilt is part of Neighborhood Ford Store’s 2025 Warriors in Pink Initiative. Its “Squares of Encouragement, Support, and Remembrance” are decorated by members of the public at community outreach events (always free to participate) and then stitched together by volunteers into meaningful works of art that are presented to outstanding breast cancer treatment facilities across the region.

“These quilts carry the voices and love of our communities,” said Joey Thurby, Chairman of the Neighborhood Ford Store. “Presenting one to Schwab Family Cancer Center at UPMC Western Maryland is our way of standing with patients, families, and caregivers in this fight.”

“Every square came from a neighbor who wanted to lift someone up,” added Greg Diehl of Diehl’s Ford Sales. “We’re honored to deliver that support to the teams and patients here in Cumberland.”

About Quilt for the Cure

Quilt for the Cure is an all-volunteer breast cancer awareness program supported by the Neighborhood Ford Store. Community members decorate free squares of encouragement, support, and remembrance at public outreach events; volunteers then assemble the squares into quilts that are presented to leading breast cancer treatment centers throughout the region.

The quilt will be on display at the center as a sign of hope and support for those going through breast cancer.
