National Night Out 2026 took place on August 4 across the country. This annual community-building campaign promotes strong police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.
In Garrett County, the Health Department partnered with the Maryland Natural Resources Police, Maryland State Police, Maryland State Fire Marshal, Garrett County Sheriff’s Office, Oakland Police, and other local agencies to host an event held at the Mountain Fresh Farmer’s Market parking lot in Oakland. The night included food, giveaways, inflatables, a dunking booth, a candy drop, a color run, and more.
“We are so glad we were able to host the local National Night Out again this year with all of our amazing partners,” said Chelsie Dever, Garrett County Health Department. “It was very well attended and continued the longstanding effort of bringing law enforcement and community together in a fun, friendly environment while providing safety messages to both adults and children. We could not have done this event without our vendors, the local businesses, and the wonderful law enforcement we have in Garrett County.”
The planning committee for the event included Chelsie Dever, Health Department; Lt. Ethan Leonard, Sgt. Martin Kaetzel, and Captain James Satterfield, all from Natural Resources Police; and F/Sgt. Brad Williams, Maryland State Police.
Over twenty community organizations attended the event to provide resources, education, and fun activities. The event was sponsored by local businesses, making it entirely free to the community. Shop N Save in McHenry donated buns and hot dogs, which were cooked by D’s Eats. Other donators included Summerfield Enterprises, Trout’s House Seafood, Dutch’s, Double G RV Park, Fleet Maintenance, and Helping Hands Thrift Store. Giveaways were donated by Deep Creek Apparel, Sang Run Sports Shop, Espresso Alley, Tractor Supply, and the Garrett County Fair Board.
