Narcan Distribution Underway Around Garrett County

The Garrett County Health Departing is sponsoring the distribution of Narcan at community sites around the county. Individuals can pick up Narcan and receive education on how to administer it.

Narcan is a medication designed to rapidly reverse opioid overdose. It can quickly restore normal breathing to someone who has experienced an opioid overdose.

“It is important to have Narcan available in case of an overdose,” said Chelsie Dever, Overdose Response Program Coordinator. “If you are around someone who has overdosed on an opioid such as heroin or Fentanyl, administering Narcan could save their life. It can even be used for a child who got into a family member’s prescription pain medication.”

Pickup events will take place from 6-7 pm at the following dates and locations:

  • 02/16 – Mountain Lake Park Town Hall
  • 02/23 – Deer Park Community Building
  • 03/02 – Grantsville Park, Volleyball Court Pavilion #3
  • 03/09 – Bloomington Fire Department
  • 03/16 – Loch Lynn Town Hall
  • 03/23 – Accident Town Hall

Additional dates and locations will be scheduled each Tuesday through June.

Virtual Overdose Response Trainings continues to be available from the Health Department. Call 301-334-7724 to find out about signing up for a virtual training.

This program is administered by the Garrett County Health Department through funding from MDH and SAMHSA. For substance abuse treatment services call Garrett County Center for Behavioral Health at 301-334-7680 or 301-895-3111.
