Music Camps Set for July 7-11 at Garrett College

The Mountain Maryland Music Institute, in its ninth year of operation, will be offering three camps July 7-11 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM each day in the Performing Arts Center at Garrett College.

Elementary choral (ages 9-12), instrumental (13-17), and piano (9-17) camps are all scheduled. The instrumental camp focuses on concert band instruments, including but not limited to flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, and percussion.

Participants in all camps will also have the opportunity to swim at the Edwards Community Aquatic & Recreation Complex.

Each camp culminates with a public performance in which students can display their progress.

The cost for each camp is $229, and space is limited. Scholarships are available for participants demonstrating financial need through the Community Trust Foundation and the Naylor Family Trust Fund.

The primary purpose of the MMMI is to provide additional support and opportunities for local public music education programs, as well as homeschool networks in and around Garrett County.

Dr. Sean Beachy, MMMI director, teaches music theory and percussion. Others on staff include Dr. Elizabeth Etnoyer, piano instructor; Dr. Brian Plitnik, brass instructor; Dr. Alyssa Schwartz, woodwind instructor; and Mrs. Debi Beachy, choral director.

The instructors provide both group and individualized instruction throughout each week.
