West Virginia upset TCU 24-20 on Saturday afternoon at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas, according to WVU Athletics. TCU had been a 10 ½-point favorite.
The game came down to TCU’s last possession. The Horned Frogs had the ball at the Mountaineer 14-yard line with one timeout and less than 40 seconds left when defensive coordinator Zac Alley called an all-out blitz. Defensive tackle David Afogho hit quarterback Jaden Craig as he tried to pass, and linebacker Ben Cutter recovered Craig’s fumble at the 23-yard line. It was the third turnover forced by the West Virginia defense, and the Mountaineers took a knee to run out the clock.
TCU outgained West Virginia 484 yards to 272. Michael Hawkins Jr. ran for 94 yards and two touchdowns, and Cam Cook added 90 yards on 18 carries and caught a touchdown pass.
West Virginia is now 5-3 overall and 2-3 in Big 12 play, and has won four straight times in Fort Worth dating back to 2019.
