The Senior Health & Fitness Club at The CARC just announced two new classes this week! Included in the regular $20/month membership, Senior Strength Training will start, today, Monday & Wednesday at 11:15 and Hanna Somatics will start Wednesday at 10am.

The Garrett County Board of Education will hold its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, September 14, 2021. The meeting will begin at 4:00 p.m. after which time the Board of Education will meet in executive session until 5:50 p.m. The Board of Education will reconvene for public session from 6:00 p.m. – 7:25 p.m.

The Maryland Department of Planning has added a map submission portal, which includes adjusted 2020 Census data. Map submissions will be reviewed by the Maryland Citizens Redistricting Commission prior to their drawing of the maps if received by Friday, September 24 at noon. Listening sessions will also be held this evening and tomorrow evening at 6pm. Additional submissions after the Citizens Commission has drawn their maps will also be accepted during the Round 3 meetings in October.

The Small Grants, Big Impact! Program is designed to inspire people from all backgrounds to connect with, celebrate, and support Maryland State Parks and their community-based programs. Through its Small Grants program the nonprofit provides $1,000 grants to state parks to help them achieve their mission.

Nearby West Virginia is experiencing a coronavirus surge — Dr. Clay Marsh says “the delta variant has entered that explosive growth phase” and even after the surge levels off, it will have left behind devastating results. Last Wednesday’s positivity rate in the state was nearly 18-percent of all tests administered. There are now more that 22-thousand active cases, which is a far cry from the fewer than one thousand the state reported just 60 days ago.

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources announced that archery hunting for white-tailed and sika deer has opened statewide and continues through Jan. 31, 2022. Archers may also use vertical longbows and vertical recurve bows Feb. 1-3, 2022 during the second annual Primitive Deer Hunt Days.

Tonight at 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm is the Garrett County Rabies Program. Garrett County experienced four cases of laboratory-confirmed rabies in 2020. Protect your pets and your family from the threat of this disease by bringing your dogs, cats, and ferrets to receive a rabies shot for $5.
