The weather today will be patchy fog before 8am. A chance of showers, with thunderstorms possible after 11am, otherwise, cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 69 and a low around 54. Calm wind becoming southwest around 6 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Ooops – my fingers were typing faster than my brain was working…. Last week I typed: “The Town of Oakland has started leaf collection — residents are asked to rake their leaves to the curb or sidewalk for collection. (Please, no leaves or apples) The collection will end October 22. The message was meant to say no STICKS or APPLES.

Forever Maryland, in partnership with the Maryland Environmental Trust, a unit of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, is now accepting applications for the Keep Maryland Beautiful grants program. There is $320,000 available for community beautification, greening, and environmental initiatives.

Three new medication disposal boxes are now located, one each, at the Garrett County Sheriff’s Office, the Maryland State Police Barrack in McHenry, and at the Oakland City Hall.

Today from 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm is the What We’re Reading Book Group in Kitzmiller.

Garrett County Community Action is holding a set of Homebuyer Workshops on Monday evenings; you must attend both workshops to obtain your Certificate of Completion.

Tonight from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm is a basic knitting course on how to knit dishcloths.

The One Maryland One Book Discussion on The Book of Delights by Ross Gay tonight from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm.
