Monday January 15

The weather will remain cold; partly cloudy today with a high of 22 but windchill temperatures  as low as -4 degrees. Some light snow accumulation through the night and into Tuesday.

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day.  It is a federal and state holiday today, so a number of local institutions will be closed, including the school system and the college. Did you know the federal holiday honoring King was signed into law in 1983, but it was not until 2000 that all 50 states recognized the holiday, the last being South Carolina?

Don’t forget to preregister for Tuesday’s Chamber Business Before Hours to be held at the Wisp starting at 8:00am.  The subject will be the economic forecast 2018.

Check out the new game at the Wisp; it is called Wisp Escape Games and it is a team sport, with reservations required.

Want a relaxing MLK day inside out of the cold?  Check out a movie at Garrett 8 and a meal at one of our great locally owned establishments.

Many people do not realize the great robotics teams at the 9-12 and College-levels that are fielded by Garrett Countians. Our teams continue to excel at regional, national and international competitions. This weekend some of our teams were in Pennsylvania and downstate Maryland and did exceptionally well.  Here’s a photo of some of our great coaches and students at the Upper Saint Clair FTC Qualifier in Pennsylvania! They won 1st place and are moving on to the PA state competition! Way to go!
