Narrative:
On 5/10/25 at approximately 1910 hours, Troopers from the McHenry Barrack responded to eastbound I-68 in the area of the 13-mile marker, Garrett Co., MD, for a reported motor vehicle collision involving a passenger car and a tractor-trailer. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2005 Honda Accord passenger car was traveling eastbound on I-68 when, for unknown reasons, it struck the rear of a 2005 Volvo tractor and trailer. This caused the driver of Vehicle #1 to lose control, at which time Vehicle #1 overturned, ejecting the two passengers in Vehicle #1. The 19-year-old driver of Vehicle #1 and an 18-year-old passenger were both transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV, for their injuries. A second passenger in Vehicle #1 (19 years of age) was declared dead at the scene due to his injuries. The driver of the tractor/trailer was not injured. The case remains under investigation by Troopers at the McHenry Barrack and Troopers from the Maryland State Police Crash Team. Troopers were also assisted at the scene by the Grantsville Fire Department, Friendsville Fire Department, and Northern Garrett County Rescue Squad.
