The Maryland State Board of Education (SBOE) will meet at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE), 200 W. Baltimore Street, in the 7th floor State Board Room. The complete agenda and live stream are available at: https://marylandpublicschools.org/stateboard/Pages/meeting-agendas/2022/2022-06-28.aspx.

The Board meeting will feature the presentation, “Financing the Future: Covid Relief Funds, Maryland Leads, and Blueprint State Aid.” The presentation details MSDE’s administration of unprecedented COVID federal relief resources and new State Blueprint funding being invested in pandemic recovery and the acceleration of student learning.

As the State Board and MSDE develop a multi-year strategic plan to actualize the Blueprint and the transformative change needed to create a world-class equitable education system, they continue to seek stakeholder input. At the meeting, MSDE will provide an update on the strategic planning process, timelines, and interim engagement results. The presentation will highlight the engagement spaces created through a statewide survey, roundtables, listening sessions, and other events, as well as preliminary survey results on what Marylanders are saying about education priorities.

In a special recognition ceremony, the State Board and MSDE will celebrate the 2022 Maryland Chamber of Commerce National Civics Bee finalists. The 10 finalists were selected by their school systems for outstanding commitment to education regarding history, government, and public policy.

In addition to public comment, the meeting will also include stakeholder engagement sessions with the State’s school leaders represented by the Maryland Association of Secondary School Principals (MASSP) and Maryland Association of Elementary School Principals (MAESP).

Public comment can be provided both in-person and virtually according to guidelines for participation. Registration is limited to 10 individuals and is first-come, first-served. Once the 10-person maximum is reached, additional individuals may be placed on a waiting list.

Registration for public comment opens the week prior to the Board meeting date and ends at 3 p.m. on Monday, June 27.
