Friday, April 3, Saturday, April 4, and Sunday, April 5: For Christians, Good Friday commemorates the biblical story of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ at Calvary before his resurrection is celebrated on Easter Sunday.

As of April 2, a total of 2,940 trout were stocked statewide this week; in Garrett County, stocking took place at Broadford Lake, Glades Park Pond (Youth and Blind), Herrington Lake, Little Youghiogheny River, Muddy Creek, and the Youghiogheny River in Oakland, with golden and rainbow trout added at each location.

A new marine business is now open at Deep Creek Lake, with Next Level Marine offering boat sales and service, dock design and installation, lifts, and a fully stocked marine retail shop, with its showroom opening to the public on April 6 in Oakland.

It’s finally deck season at The Greene Turtle (Deep Creek Lake), with its official deck opening on April 10, bringing sunshine, cold drinks, great food, and all the good vibes for a perfect night out.

Applications remain open for Garrett County’s FY 2026 Agriculture Marketing Grant Program, with awards offered on a first-come, first-served basis while funds last. This year includes new restrictions on eligible purchases and a firm deadline for submitting receipts and proof of payment. Previous FY 2025 recipients are not eligible, and applications close May 15, 2026.

Garrett County’s FRC Team 1629, GaCo, secured a spot in the Chesapeake District Championship after earning 38 district points at their latest qualifier and receiving the Engineering Inspiration Award.

Students from Southern Garrett High School recently visited Grantsville Elementary School to share their Science Fair projects, bringing science to life through hands-on demonstrations and interactive presentations that inspired younger students while building leadership and communication skills.

Spring is in the air at Bear Creek Traders, with fresh finds, lake-inspired gifts, and seasonal favorites ready for your next stop in Deep Creek Lake.

Spring has sprung at Mountain State Brewing Co., along with new hours: Monday to Thursday from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Friday to Sunday from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with weekly favorites still in place, including Locals Day on Wednesdays, Team Trivia on Thursdays at 6:30 PM, and Team Bingo on Sundays at 1:00 PM.

The Garrett County Sheriff’s Office will conduct training at Northern Garrett High School today and Monday, April 6; additional emergency vehicles may be on campus, but student learning will not be disrupted on Monday.

Fish Fry Fridays at Ace’s Run Restaurant & Pub is available until today only, featuring a fried fish sandwich, fish tacos, or hush puppies each Friday, offered for both dine-in and carry-out.

All-levels Yoga is a calming class designed to ground and stretch, featuring adaptive poses and flowing sequences suitable for all experience levels, held Fridays from 10:45 AM to 11:45 AM at the Community Aquatics & Recreation Center at Garrett College.

Trivia Night at Big Sandy Brews starts at 7:00 PM tonight, offering a fun evening of games where you can test your knowledge and enjoy time with family.

Park and Trail Clean-up takes place Saturday at 9:00 AM at Deep Creek Lake Lions Club Park, where volunteers will help with spring cleanup efforts, including raking leaves in the dog park, clearing trash and debris, and reviewing trails for areas needing marking or major tree removal; tools, supplies, and water will be provided.

Weekend Wake-up takes place Saturday from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Community Aquatics & Recreation Center at Garrett College, featuring energizing stretches and movement with a focus on breathwork, balance, and flexibility.

Open House this Saturday at 16 Cedar Shores Drive #12 in McHenry from 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM, where sales agent Michelle Clark will be available for tours of this lake-access townhome.

Another open house this Saturday at 1038 S. Blakeslee Road in Oakland from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, where sales agents James Matthews (10:00 AM – 12:00 PM) and Eric Crawford (12:00 PM – 2:00 PM) will be offering tours of this roomy lakefront home in the sought-after Blakeslee community.
