GOLD MEDAL WEEKENDS AT WISP RESORT

Themed Weekends Created Around the 2018 Winter Olympics

Every four years the Winter Olympics return to the world bringing with it excitement and enthusiasm for winter sports including skiing and snowboarding.  Wisp Resort has harnessed that energy and created two Gold Medal Weekends around the opening and closing weekends of the Winter Games, February 9 – 11 and February 23 – 25, 2018.

Each weekend will kick-off on Friday at 6:00pm with a Torch Light Parade down The Face trail featuring advanced skiers and snowboarders from Wisp’s Ski and Snowboard School, Mountain Hosts and Ski Patrol Teams.  Best spectating areas are at the base of front side slopes or from inside the McHenry Lodge in front of the 30ft windows.  From 6:30pm to 9pm each Friday, a Stage Wisp Concert will take place in Wispers Bar.  February 9 will feature Eric Lewis and his acoustic 80’s-era tunes with Key Brewing promoting their craft brews while February 23 will welcome Kid Pro Quo and their variety of rock sounds along with SweetWater Brewing Co. promoting their craft brand of beer.

Saturdays of each Gold Medal Weekend will differ slightly but the Master of Ceremonies will remain the same.  MC Connor Norman will be stationed in the Olympics Headquarters (AKA Wispers Bar) each Saturday from 10am to 3pm with music, dialogue, games, trivia and lots of Gold Medal opportunities.  Guests can participate for chances to win Gold Medals to flaunt all weekend long.  The Deep Creek Winter Sports Team will host a Fund-Racer (fundraising race) on Saturday, February 11 at Noon at the base of Squirrel Cage.  The race is open to all skiers and snowboarders with a cost of $5 for 2 runs down the race course.  Racers can choose to go head-to-head with other racers or a timed race.  Gold Medals will be awarded for different categories.  Registration information can be found online at wispresort.com.  Central Park Terrain Park will hold a Slopestyle Competition February 11 and 24 at 2pm for freestyle skiers and riders to lay down their best tricks for a chance to win Gold.  At 3pm each Gold Medal Saturday, the Mountain Park will feature a fun Turtle Luge for kids ages 0 to 12 where little racers will slide down in trash bags for chances to win medals.

Sundays will round out each Gold Medal Weekend with MC Connor back in the Olympics HQ from 10am to 1pm.  February 11 will feature former Olympic Ice Carver and 2002 Olympic Ice Carving Team Captain, Richard Bubin with an ice carving demonstration at Noon on the Outdoor Deck of the McHenry Lodge.  Mr. Bubin is a Master Ice Carver and holds the Guinness World Record for the fastest ice carver for sixty-one 300 lb. blocks carved into sixty-one different sculptures in 4 hours, 22 minutes and 55 seconds back in January 2002. At 1:00pm Sunday, February 11 and 25, whomever has received or won a Wisp Gold Medal is invited to the Gold Medal Ceremony in the McHenry Lodge.  Each Gold Medal recipient can put their name in for a chance to win a variety of prizes including t-shirts, down vests, hats, sweaters, Wisp activities, snowboards and more.
