Garrett County Public Schools (GCPS) is delighted to announce that our 2023-24 Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Ali Schilpp, attended the 33rd Annual Maryland Teacher of the Year Gala on Friday, October 13, 2023. She was accompanied by past Teachers of the Year, Mrs. Amy Beeman (2022-23) and Mrs. Lindsay Krisher (2021-22). Also in attendance were Mr. David Yoder, Principal-Northern Garrett Educational Campus, Mr. Zachary Krisher, Assistant Principal-Southern Garrett Middle, and Mr. Brian Schilpp, Assistant Principal-Northern Garrett Educational Campus.
Mrs. Schilpp is a highly qualified, National Board-Certified educator with an impressive educational background. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre and Media Performance from Stevenson University and a Master’s degree in Instructional Technology & School Library Media from Towson University. In addition to her certifications, Mrs. Schilpp has received numerous recognitions. She was School Library Journal’s 2018 School Librarian of the Year, received the 2019 Betty Roemmelmeyer Advocate Award from the Children’s Literature Centre, and is a LEGO® Education Ambassador.
Dr. Brenda McCartney, GCPS Interim Superintendent stated, “We are proud of Mrs. Schilpp for the dedication and hard work she has shown in her role as a media specialist and we are thrilled that she was able to represent GCPS at this event.” Mrs. Schilpp will continue to serve as the GCPS Teacher of the Year through the remainder of the 2023-24 school year. She will participate in various special events throughout the state during this time, culminating with a retreat to be held in Garrett County in May 2024.
