GCPS Sees Growth Across Nearly All Schools in 2026 Maryland Report Card

Garrett County Public Schools (GCPS) demonstrated progress across its schools in the 2026 Maryland School Report Card released this week by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). All 11 GCPS schools earned three- or four-star ratings, and 9 schools increased the percentage of accountability points earned compared with the previous year.

Broad Ford School leads GCPS with the greatest increase in percentage points, increasing an impressive 13% over the previous year. Two schools, Yough Glades Elementary School and Northern Middle School, advanced to a higher star-rating level. Additionally, five schools finished within three percentage points of reaching the next star rating level: Crellin Elementary School, Accident Elementary School, Broad Ford School, Route 40 Elementary School, and Southern Garrett High School.

“The increase in the percentage of points earned by our schools reflects the progress taking place across GCPS and the collective effort behind that progress,” said Dr. Nicole Miller, Superintendent of Schools. “These results speak to the dedication of our educators, the hard work of our students, and the commitment of our school communities. We will continue building on these gains with a focus on high-quality instruction, student growth, and ensuring every learner has the opportunity to succeed.”

The Maryland School Report Card evaluates schools using multiple indicators. Elementary and middle schools are assessed on academic achievement, academic progress, progress in achieving English language proficiency, and school quality and student success. High schools are evaluated on academic achievement, graduation rates, progress in achieving English language proficiency, readiness for postsecondary success, and school quality and student success.

Star ratings reflect the percentage of available accountability points earned across the applicable indicators. The report card also provides information about state assessment results, attendance, graduation rates, enrollment, and outcomes for individual student groups.

Families and community members can explore the 2026 Maryland School Report Card results for Garrett County and its individual schools at the Maryland Report Card website.
