Garrett County Public Schools (GCPS) is seeking feedback on the proposed Virtual Learning Plan for the 2026-27 school year. All responses collected will be reviewed and shared with the Garrett County Board of Education members and the Superintendent, and published as a public document on the Diligent platform for the November 2026 Board Meeting.
𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧 this year is the use of paper packets for all students in Pre-K3 and Pre-K4 grade levels. The following are reminders from prior years:
• Virtual days may only be implemented in place of inclement weather days.
• Virtual learning days may only be implemented after make-up inclement weather days have been utilized.
• All virtual days must be synchronous learning (asynchronous days are not an option).
• The possibility of utilizing a 2- or 3-hour delay on a Virtual Learning Day (to provide greater flexibility in making inclement weather calls).
• Approval is up to each Local Education Agency. State-level approval is no longer required.
The window for accepting feedback on this plan will run through October 28, 2026. The plan and feedback form may be reviewed at https://www.gcps.net/o/gcps/page/gcps-virtual-learning-plan. For questions regarding the plan, please submit an inquiry to public.info@gcps.net or call 301-334-8936. The Board is expected to take action on this plan during the monthly meeting on November 10, 2026.
