GCPS Robotics Team 1629 “GaCo” Recognized by the Governor’s Office and Garrett County Commissioners, Celebrate Years of Hard Work

The Garrett County Collaboration Robotics Team, Team 1629 GaCo, has received recognition from Governor Larry Hogan’s Office, the Garrett County Commissioners, the Garrett County Chamber of Commerce, and many local businesses and organizations. This recognition comes from the team winning the Chairman’s Award at the FIRST Robotics World Championship, the highest honor a team can receive, and their induction into the FIRST Robotics Hall of Fame.

To celebrate this, the team hosted all team members, coaches, volunteers, and supporters—past and present, for a celebration. This was held last evening in the Ag Hall at the Garrett County Fairgrounds. The celebration was of the victory and for the years of support received from Garrett County Public Schools (GCPS), local businesses, and other community supporters.

Team 1629 GaCo started in 2005 and has competed for eighteen years. During this time, the team competed with a robot each year, originating with Meshach. Last evening, all eighteen robots were on-site from Meshach 1.0 to 18.0, and each variation in between. In all, just over 200 people turned out for the celebration Thursday evening.
