WVU Medicine Garrett Regional Medical Center is proud to recognize Tim Winner and Lorie Friend for employee of the year and patient safety star of the year awards.
“These honorees represent the very best of Garrett Regional Medical Center,” said Mark Boucot, president and CEO of WVU Medicine Garrett Regional Medical Center and Potomac Valley Hospital. “Their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to supporting both patients and colleagues help strengthen our culture of safety, teamwork, and compassionate care every day.”
Tim Winner, courier–concierge, was named Employee of the Year. He is known for being kind to all staff, going above and beyond his job duties, and living out the organization’s mission of treating every patient and each other like family. Always willing to help in any area, He was also recognized for proactively addressing a potential safety hazard during snowy conditions by clearing walkways, steps, and entry areas to help prevent slips and falls for staff and visitors. His actions reflect strong teamwork, initiative, and a commitment to safety.
Lorie Friend, RN III, of the operating room, was named Patient Safety Star of the Year. Friend was recognized for exemplifying the hospital’s Speak Up for Safety program by raising an important safety concern during a Town Hall meeting, helping prompt additional safety interventions. Her advocacy reflects a strong commitment to patient safety and continuous improvement.
The Employee of the Year and Patient Safety Star of the Year honors are based on monthly nominations submitted by staff at Garrett Regional Medical Center. Employees nominate peers for employee of the month and patient safety star of the month, with recipients selected through staff voting throughout the year. Annual award recipients are chosen by hospital administration from among those honorees.
