Garrett History Organization Selected to Co-host Tour of Smithsonian Exhibitio

The Smithsonian heads to the Garrett County Historical Society with Maryland Humanities’ next Museum on Main Street tour on July 5, 2025! Garrett is the second stop on Maryland’s tour of Spark! Places of Inspiration, a traveling Smithsonian Institution exhibition focused on innovation.

This tour is possible through the Maryland Humanities’ Museum on Main Street (MoMS) program, our collaboration with the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service which teams up with state humanities councils like Maryland Humanities to bring high-quality Smithsonian traveling exhibitions to museums, historical societies, and other small-town cultural venues across the country.

Spark! highlights social, cultural, or artistic innovation in rural America from the perspective of the people who lived it. Each Crossroadshosting partner creates its programming and exhibit to complement the Smithsonian’s exhibition and highlight their own region’s story.

When: July 5–August 17, 2025
Where: Garrett County Historical Society (107 S 2nd St.,  Oakland, MD 21550) & nearby partner organizations
