Race Results for the Garrett County Composite Mountain Biking Team at Button Farm in Germantown, MD October 22nd, 2023

The MICL Blast Off at Button Farm Race took place on October 22nd,2023. The 4.2 mile race loop had an amazing combination of single track mountain biking trails that were both flowy and challenging enough to keep riders grinning the whole lap. The course was very narrow which is great for recreational riding, but created limited passing options.  Riders had to effectively communicate with each other to pass safely and decisively.  Student-athletes also found several stream crossings and multiple punchy climbs full of wet roots on their way to the finish line.

Three Coyotes girls battled their way to the podium and all 5 girls racing finished in the top 10 of their division. In the girls 7th grade division, Aspen Smith took 2nd place completing 2 race laps with a time of 49:51. Junior Ashlynn Anderson finished 3rd in the Girls HS1 Div. in 49:01. Ava Anderson took 4th place in the Girls 8th grade div. with a time of 53:03.  Freshman Allison Thrush just missed the podium, taking 6th place in the HS3 division with a time of 56:22 and senior Ellie Hudnall finished her 2 lap race in the HS2 Division in 1:01:01 earning 7th place.

In the middle school boys division 8th grader, Cam Hudnall finished two laps in 45:09 to capture 6th place.

The boys high school divisions were packed with super fast and very experienced riders. Competing in the Varsity Div, Nathan Aldridge grabbed the hole shot to lead the first lap and finished strong in 5th place. With the fastest riders on course, Aldridge completed 4 laps, 17 miles 1:12:59. Teammate Jackson Hordubay competed in the Boys HS1 division and finished the 3 lap race in 14th place with a time of 1:02:40. In the HS3 division, freshman Jason VanAntwerp came in 12th place in 47:42 in the two lap race. Teammates Cooper Haley finished 17th place in 48:21, Andrew SanJulian took 22nd in 49:33, Henry Faulkner finished 39th in 51:19 and sophomore Micah Bucznski took 47th of 95 riders in 52:34.

The team finished 8th overall but just as importantly, they experienced a great pre-ride, shared campfire stories, and held the first MICL midnight / glow in the dark kickball game! They continue to build and strengthen the future of youth mountain biking in Maryland.

The Coyotes next event is the Maryland State Mountain Biking Finals in Patapsco State Park on Nov 3-4th, Windsor Mill, MD.
