Garrett County Public Schools (GCPS) was honored during a Special Olympics Spotlight Hour held on Friday, February 20, as part of the Super Dunk event. The recognition celebrated the strong and ongoing partnership between GCPS and Special Olympics Maryland, as well as the school system’s continued support of Unified sports and inclusive programming.
During the Spotlight Hour, top fundraisers from each GCPS team, along with their team captains, were invited to attend and be recognized for their leadership, commitment, and contributions to this year’s fundraising efforts. These individuals played a key role in supporting initiatives that benefit Unified Sports across Garrett County. Participants were also given the opportunity to join members of the Super Dunk team for an additional dunk, adding to the excitement and celebratory spirit of the evening.
One of the first Super Dunkers was Dr. Chelsie Manges, GCPS Director of Special Education, who dunked 12 times over 12 hours, stating, “Each dunk was dedicated to one of our schools to continue to bring awareness to our unified sports and highlight our dedication and commitment to inclusion.”
The event highlighted the impact of community collaboration and the dedication of GCPS students, staff, and supporters in promoting inclusion and opportunity through Unified Sports.
