Garrett County Launches Interactive Map to Spotlight Roadside Stands

Garrett County’s Department of Business Development, teaming up with the Garrett County Extension Office, is putting together a free interactive map that will make it easier to track down roadside stands scattered across the county. The goal is straightforward: help residents and visitors find fresh, locally grown and homemade products without having to rely on word of mouth or a chance drive-by.

The map is expected to include stands selling produce, cut flowers, eggs, honey, baked goods, meat, maple syrup, and other homemade or homegrown items. Business Development Manager Kim Durst has said the project responds to a rising interest in buying local, and that giving stand owners more visibility should help them reach customers who might not otherwise know they exist.

There is no cost for roadside stand owners to be included. Those who want to participate are asked to share the name of their stand or farm, a physical address or GPS location, hours and days of operation, the products they offer, and optionally a phone number, website, or photo. Submissions go through Melissa Bolyard, the county’s Agriculture Business Specialist, either by email or by calling the Extension Office directly.

County officials are also encouraging residents to pass the word along to any local farmers or producers who run a stand but might not otherwise hear about the opportunity. Once complete, the map is expected to serve as an ongoing resource that grows as more stands sign up in the years ahead, giving Garrett County’s small agricultural businesses a lasting, easy-to-find presence online.

Stand owners interested in being added can reach the Garrett County Extension Office at 301-334-6960.
