Garrett County Health Department Acknowledges Healthy Families Garrett County During National Home Visiting Week

The second annual National Home Visiting Week takes place April 20-24, 2026! During National Home Visiting Week, the Garrett County Health Department celebrates home visitors and the positive impact they make on maternal, infant, and child health outcomes in their everyday work.  Parenting can be hard, and being a parent does not come with an instruction manual. Home visiting professionals and paraprofessionals empower parents to be the very best they can be and work alongside them to build confidence and resilience. Utilizing a variety of evidence-based models, home visiting services support early prenatal care and healthy birth outcomes, promote early childhood literacy and learning, increase family self-sufficiency, and help children enter school fully prepared to succeed.

“I am especially proud of the Healthy Families Garrett County home visiting program and the support the program provides to families across Garrett County,” says Maria Friend, BSN, RN, Program Director of Early Care Programs at the Garrett County Health Department.

Healthy Families Garrett County staff make a big impact on local families every day! From showing up when it matters most to providing essential services for Garrett County’s littlest residents, the team at Healthy Families Garrett County goes the extra mile to make a difference together. Dedicated data entry and quality assurance team members, Deb House and Natasha Coddington, work alongside the home visiting team to help meet the needs of families and children enrolled in the home visiting program.

Friend said, “This week and every week, we celebrate these hardworking and compassionate individuals who make up the maternal, infant, and early childhood home visiting team at the Garrett County Health Department!”
