Garrett Trails has announced the cancellation of the 2025 Garrett County Gran Fondo. After careful consideration, the organization determined that hosting its largest annual fundraiser would not be feasible while also focusing on the completion of multiple trail projects slated for the upcoming year.
Garrett Trails acknowledges the disappointment this decision may cause for participants, volunteers, sponsors, and the community. As a beloved tradition, the Gran Fondo has brought together cycling enthusiasts from across the country to experience the natural beauty of Garrett County.
Despite the cancellation of the Gran Fondo, Garrett Trails remains committed to enhancing outdoor recreation in the region and key trail projects planned for 2025 include:
- Fork Run Recreation Area
- A 1.2-mile singletrack connection between the North Fork Loop (formerly the green/beige trails) and Adventure Way Road. This project is funded by a Maryland SHA Recreational Trails Program grant, matched by a generous donation from the Community Trust Foundation. The project also includes the installation of new trail signs at the Shingle Camp parking area and additional wayfinding signs within the trail system.
- Development of an intermediate trail near the Shingle Camp parking lot and climbing area. This new trail will complement the recently completed adaptive Acorn Loop and is being developed in partnership with Garrett County.
- Margraff Plantation Trail System
- Improvements include trail rehabilitation for sustainability and the addition of an adaptive loop. Managed by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, this work builds on Garrett Trails’ ongoing efforts to maintain and improve this trail network.
