Garrett County Board of Education Adopts New Elementary Social Studies Curriculum

Mrs. Candy Maust, Supervisor of English Language Arts (ELA) and Social Studies, presented myWorld Interactive® K-5 social studies curriculum at the September monthly Board meeting. The curriculum has been out for public review and/or comment since that time at the Grantsville/Northern Middle School building and the Ruth Enlow Library in Oakland. Feedback was shared with the Superintendent and Board members.

myWorld Interactive® encourages active inquiry while introducing civics, economics, geography, and history concepts. Students develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills for engaged civic life. The program includes strong ELA instruction to support social studies inquiry and new literacy standards. myWorld Interactive® is both comprehensive and adaptable, so it fits a wide range of classrooms and schedules. The student-centered social studies curriculum helps teachers achieve their instructional goals.

Board members voted unanimously to approve the new curriculum, which is expected to be in classrooms at the beginning of January 2023.
