Garrett County has opened registration for the 2025 Tax Sale, which will take place online at https://garrett.marylandtaxsale.com.
All bidders must register by 4:00 PM on Friday, May 16, 2025, in order to participate. Bidding opens Monday, May 19 and will close in batches on Friday, May 23. The list of available properties is posted on the auction website and will be updated regularly.
A tax sale involves the auction of tax lien certificates, not the property itself. A tax lien is a legal claim representing unpaid real estate taxes, assessments, penalties, and associated fees. When these charges remain unpaid, the county sells the tax lien certificates to investors in order to recover the delinquent amounts.
