Garrett College Workforce Training will host its second annual open house at the Beitzel Career Technology Training Center on March 27th from 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM.
“This is a great opportunity to see our training programs in action—whether you want to check out our brand-new Marine Technician program, try a welding VR simulator, or step into our newly completed training kitchen,” said Tasha Mongold, career and technical education specialist. “We’ll have plenty of information on workforce training programs and financial assistance, including scholarships. Participants will also have the opportunity to connect with local organizations who support services to students.”
Workforce Training, a department within the Continuing Education & Workforce Development division of Garrett College, offers a range of programs leading to certifications and credentials in key industry sectors.
“We rely on input from our business partners on the types of training needed in our community and how frequently they should be offered,” said Julie Yoder, dean of continuing education and workforce development. If an employer needs to hire or upskill their workforce, we invite them to contact us to develop a training to meet their needs.”
Programs offered in the Allied Health and EMS industry include Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, Paramedic, Phlebotomy, Medical Billing, and Veterinary Assistant. Programs supporting skilled trades include Intro to Construction, Manual and CNC Machining, and Welding.
Workforce Training is also a related instruction provider for two apprenticeship programs in collaboration with the Maryland Apprenticeship and Training Program (MATP) and the Maryland Department of Labor; these include Electrical and HVAC/R.
In support of the transportation industry, Class A and Class B Commercial Drivers License (CDL) training is available at CEWD’s Mountaintop Truck Driving Institute (MTDI), located in Grantsville. Other programs supporting the transportation industry include Diesel Mechanic and Marine Technician.
