Representatives of twenty colleges and universities were at Garrett College last Tuesday for GC’s Transfer Day, offering everything from information about their institutions to on-the-spot admissions decisions.
“We were thrilled to host our first Transition Day since 2019, and the turnout exceeded our expectations,” said Ashley Ruby, director of Garrett College’s Learning Commons and Academic Success.
Ruby said Transfer Day offered students “an invaluable opportunity to explore the next steps in their academic journey.”
That’s exactly why GC sophomore Johnna Collins a Deer Park resident, attended Transfer Day.
“I’m mainly looking for transfer options I may want to consider,” said Collins, who is planning to pursue a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or forensic science.
Two of Garrett College’s major transfer partners – West Virginia University and Frostburg State University – were among the institutions with representatives at Transfer Day. WVU representative Brittany Stout said her institution intentionally recruits Garrett College transfer students.
“We’re close in proximity, we have a wide variety of academic options, and we have a lot of transfer scholarships available,” said Stout of reasons GC students might want to consider WVU.
Sean Aurigemma, interim associate director of admissions at Frostburg State, said FSU’s Associate Degree Scholarship should be attractive to impending GC graduates. FSU offers a $3,000 scholarship, renewable for a second year, to community college graduates with a minimum 3.0 grade-point average.
