“Sunflowers Afield” is a very befitting name for the 2024-2025 quilt that was raffled off by the Friendsville Library Quilters on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. Displaying a striking sunflower pattern and a color palette of warm autumn hues, this is the 19th quilt created by this talented group of ladies. Congratulations to the winner of this year’s raffle, Fred Lewis (pictured above).
The winning ticket was drawn by the winner of 2022-2023’s “Hearts and Flowers” quilt, Virginia McKenzie. Pictured above are (left to right) Virginia McKenzie (front row, standing) and quilters Ina Hicks (front row, seated), Mimi Demaree, Sheila Convis, Louise Lawrence, and Michele Liston (back row, standing). Not present for the photo were quilters Glenna Hoecker, Jennifer Pletta, and Kate Tichnell.
“We can’t say enough about how much we appreciate this wonderful group of ladies. Each exquisite quilt is a testament to not only their collaborative skill and talent, but also their dedication to and support of the library. We also certainly appreciate and thank everyone who purchased or sold tickets for this raffle,” said Melissa Custer, Friendsville Branch Manager.
The quilters raised a total of $1,2305 during this year’s raffle. To date, they have generously donated $28,789 in quilt raffle proceeds to the Friendsville Branch of the Ruth Enlow Library of Garrett County.
The Ruth Enlow Library serves the residents of Garrett County, Maryland, with branches in Oakland, Accident, Friendsville, Grantsville, and Kitzmiller. The library provides access to a wide range of resources, including books, digital media, educational programs, and community services.
