I have not seen ANY cicadas here at the lake. Here’s a reminder from the Maryland Department of the Environment: After 17 years below ground these cicadas were not able to finish emerging and mate because of the piece of glass. Don’t litter!

A Maryland License-Free Fishing Day is tomorrow!

At the DCL Discovery Center:
TONIGHT: Bear Aware (5:30-8) – Stop by the headquarters building to learn about our beloved native black bears. Information will include their natural history, precautions campers should take, management tactics, as well as general local/park information. The naturalists will have hands-on displays.

SATURDAY:
Fishing With The Naturalists (Starts at 10) — Join our naturalists at the Discovery Center to learn how to take part in one of the best pastimes Deep Creek has to offer: fishing! Kids under 15 will learn skills that will help on their own fishing adventures. (Registration and a ten dollar payment is required at HQ, first come first serve.)

Herp Hike (Starts at 2, .5 Miles) – Join a naturalist for a stroll through the park and discover the hidden treasures that are our the native reptiles and amphibians of our region. Great for all ages! Meet on the Discovery Center deck.

SUNDAY:
Reptile Encounter (Starts at 10) – All are invited to the benches by the aviary to learn about some of our fascinating and gentle reptile ambassadors. Great for kids!

Aviary Tour (Starts at 2) – Meet our birds of prey for lunch at the aviary. Our naturalists will discuss the enthralling natural history of these powerful animals as well as some peeks at how they are trained!
