Did you catch the “parade of the planets” this morning? These planets are known as “naked-eye planets” because they can be seen without the use of binoculars or telescopes — are Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. They were aligned in their natural order from the sun, with the partial moon joining them before dawn.

Also, a rocket launched at 5:35 a.m. today from Wallops Flight Facility carrying student experiments. The rocket reached an altitude of 70 miles.

When Dr. Kara Rogers Thomas attended her first Grantsville Days, the Appalachian folklore expert was anticipating observing lawn mower pulls. But, Thomas highlighted supporting new folk traditions, including the expansion of folk life topics such as “rock climbers, kayakers and white water enthusiasts, cross country skiers, sustainable farmers, race car drivers” that are now being explored through a folklife lens.
