I am excited to learn some mountain bike skills at a clinic today as part of the Canaan Valley Mountain Bike Festival in nearby West Virginia.

President Biden signed a law into effect making today the first federal Juneteenth holiday in American history.

Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. Its name stems from June 19, 1865, when Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger in Galveston, Texas, issued General Order No. 3, which announced that in accordance with the Emancipation Proclamation, “all slaves are free.”

The Garrett County Health Department offices will be closed on Friday, June 18, 2021, in observance of Juneteenth National Independence Day. Thus, all routine clinics at the Health Department will be closed. However, the COVID-19 vaccination clinic scheduled for Friday, June 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Grantsville Outreach Center of the Health Department will continue as planned.
