Free Rain Barrels

Free Rain Barrels at Deep Creek Lake, MD

The Deep Creek Watershed Foundation has partnered with the University of Maryland – Garrett County Extension service to educate and provide the public of Garrett County with a program on the use and benefits of rain barrels. Thanks to the Deep Creek Watershed Foundation and a grant from The Community Trust Foundation, those completing the online course will receive a free rainwater barrel.

Rain barrels are good because they help conserve water, reduce stormwater runoff, and can lower water bills by providing a free source of water for gardens and lawns. They also help reduce the strain on municipal water systems during peak usage times.

The first distribution has been completed, and a second distribution date is set for July 11th. A third distribution will also take place, but barrels are limited in quantity. For more information, please contact Ashley Bachtel-Bodkins at abachtel@umd.edu or phone 301.334.6960.
