The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, a cornerstone of Garrett County Community Action’s commitment to financial well-being since 2015, is offering free tax preparation services through April 9.
Dedicated and experienced IRS-certified tax preparers help navigate the complexities of tax filing and are committed to maximizing eligible credits and deductions. The program is free to prepare as well as free to file. While there’s no guarantee that everyone will receive a refund, in 2025, over one million dollars was returned to local pockets.
To participate, gross income must be $69,000 or less per tax household. The income limit does not apply if over the age of 60. Residents of any state or county are welcome, though some exclusions apply for Pennsylvania returns. No appointment needed, just bring all tax documents and ID for everyone on the return, as well as bank account information during open hours in Grantsville or Oakland.
